Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position, requiring a NE or compact RN license and expertise with high-acuity cardiac patients.

Responsibilities

  • Position is based in an 18-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at a Level I Trauma acute care setting
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1
  • Patient population includes open heart, complex thoracic and vascular cases, post-surgical cardiac, lytic therapy, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs, and advanced support cases
  • Unit supports patients transferred from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
  • Frequent use of advanced devices including Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
  • RNs are required to titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmic drips
  • No CNAs; no tele/monitor techs—RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7 in the ICU
  • Utilizes Epic EMR; previous experience preferred
  • Night shifts are 12 hours, with shifts running 1830-0630
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required as needed based on unit needs
  • Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Primary responsibilities include the care and stabilization of critically ill cardiac and vascular patients utilizing advanced therapeutic devices
  • Charge nurse present on each shift; does not take a patient assignment
  • 2 department-specific orientation shifts provided, with 12 hours of orientation in total
  • Pass/fail exam covering clinical skills is administered during orientation; a score of at least 90% is required for continuation
  • No CNAs on the unit; RNs handle all patient care directly
  • Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted up front and is limited to 7 days per 13-week assignment with no additional RTO approved after submission
  • Holiday coverage is required as scheduled by unit needs
  • Candidates who have worked for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the last year as a direct employee are not eligible
  • Strict adherence to the unit dress code is required

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in a similar CVICU or high-acuity cardiac unit
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required and must be current at time of consideration
  • Previous experience with cardiovascular intensive care and titration of critical drips required
  • Must be able to operate and troubleshoot RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow systems as needed
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license required to confirm permanent address
  • Candidates cannot be currently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
  • Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in patient care areas
