Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a current CA RN license and recent Level I Trauma experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Department of a Level I Trauma Center with both adult and pediatric patients
• High-acuity setting with trauma, homeless, psych, sepsis, and stroke cases
• Patient populations include high volumes of pediatrics, with 1000 visits per month and 18-20% pediatric admissions
• 30% overall admission rate
• Assignments may include OBS Holding, MS Tele Psych Holding, and care for hallway patients
• Special procedures include fast-track rapid care, nurse protocols, and rapid care assessments
• No traveler assignments to intake, triage, resuscitation, or primary pediatric areas
• Travelers may care for patients with PCA pumps, but staff manage the pumps
• Uses Cerner EMR—prior experience required
• 3x12 hour evening shifts, 15:00–03:00
• No block or self-scheduling available
• Care for a diverse patient population including trauma, psychiatric, and high-acuity medical cases
• Team includes travelers and core hospital staff, with staff managing specialized equipment like PCA pumps
• Facility is a Magnet designated hospital
• Initial orientation and support provided as appropriate
• No RTO (requested time off) allowed within the first 2 weeks of assignment
• Return staff must be gone for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Scrub color or dress code requirements not specified

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
• ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
• TNCC certification required
• At least 1 year of acute care ER experience required, with Level I Trauma Center experience needed within the last 2 years
• First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of ER experience
• Cerner EMR experience required
• BSN, CPI, or MAB certification preferred
• Must pass an EKG exam with up to 3 attempts
• At least one supervisory/director/manager reference from the past year in the ER setting required
