Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a mixed acuity unit requiring TNCC certification, Epic proficiency, and the ability to work 48-hour weeks.

Responsibilities

• Mixed ICU setting including MICU, SICU, CICU, and trauma ICU, divided into pods
• Patient population includes complex medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• RN-to-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity, rarely 1:3
• 12-hour day shifts with 48 hours per week required
• Floating is uncommon but may occur to adult med-surg/tele units with a 1:4 ratio
• Uses Epic charting system (required), with Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell medication management
• ICU RNs may occasionally float to the ED if qualified
• Weekend rotation is typically every other weekend but not guaranteed
• No on-call responsibilities
• Responsibilities include managing a diverse critical care population and mentoring students as needed
• Support team includes nurse aides, charge RNs, resource nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and intensivist coverage
• Hospital and unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift in ICU
• No time off allowed during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally in early August
• Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted if extending to fulfill a full 13-week contract
• Scrub color is navy
• Free parking is available

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience (excluding travel experience) is strongly preferred
• At least one prior travel assignment is required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications (TNCC required prior to arrival)
• Comfort and experience with 48-hour/week contracts
• Proficiency with Epic EMR is required
• Experience in ventilator management, proning, critical care medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic monitoring, and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
