Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced PCU RN with Level 1 trauma and orthopedic experience for a high-acuity night shift assignment.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a tertiary care hospital
- Primary patient population includes high-acuity orthopedic trauma and overflow post-op surgical patients
- Patient ratios are generally 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
- Handles large daily patient turnover with high-volume admissions
- Responsibilities include blood product administration, mobility, total joints, ORIF, laminectomy, hand surgery, bladder suspension, and select gyn and eye surgeries
- Night shifts are 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15
- Required to work at least 8 weekend shifts per 6-week period, including combinations of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Regular floating required to other PCU floors and potentially between departments and facilities
- On-call required 1-2 weekdays per week and 2 weekends per 13-week contract
- Uses EPIC electronic medical records system
- Position involves frequent admissions and discharges due to high patient turnover
- Charge RN duties and holiday shift coverage may be required
- Team includes other PCU staff, with travelers expected to float and adapt to varying unit needs
- Pre-employment modules and drug screening required prior to start
- Candidates with diluted or unapproved drug screen results may not be eligible to reapply for six months
- No travel partners permitted in this assignment
- Maximum of 7 days of time-off requests allowed per contract

Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required at time of consideration; Kansas license may also be necessary for float coverage
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience, including at least 1 year of continuous in-specialty experience within the past 12 months
- Level 1 trauma and high-acuity orthopedic care experience required
- PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
- Strong IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line care, wound care, wound vac, isolation precautions, and managing various orthopedic devices
- Must be familiar with special equipment including traction, braces, casts, crutches, doppler, hemovac, Alaris pump, PCA, and peripheral nerve block catheters
- Two recent professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both within the past year
- Pending licenses are not accepted
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
