Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg/Telemetry position on the night shift, requiring Illinois licensure and proficiency with EPIC.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital on the Med Surg/Telemetry inpatient surgical unit
• 48-bed unit across two buildings caring for neuro, orthopedic, and surgical patients
• Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts per week, starting at 7 pm
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-6 on nights, with LPN and virtual nurse support; primary care nursing model frequently used
• Required to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotation with core staff
• Charting is completed in EPIC; EPIC experience is mandatory
• Tele monitor tech monitors strips, but RNs are required to interpret; Draeger monitors in use
• Floating is required only to similar units; on higher acuity units may be assigned as support without patient load
• No call or standby obligations
• Responsible for care of patients with neuro, general surgery, ortho, sepsis, and high-acuity post-op cases
• Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover, 8-12 surgery admits per day, and frequent discharges
• Surgical population includes laminectomy, cervical fusion, joint replacement, ostomy, hernia repair, amputations, and dialysis-related cases
• Primary care nursing frequently implemented, and teamwork is emphasized with LPNs, CNAs, and virtual nurse support
• Scrub color is black
• Initial orientation includes a 12-hour shift on the unit plus onboarding modules
• Accepts local clinicians at the same rate

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care Med Surg/Telemetry experience
• At least 1 year of recent surgical experience including total joint procedures
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications
• Demonstrated competence with EPIC charting
• Working knowledge of PCA pumps, reversal drugs such as Narcan, sepsis management, TPN/lipids, narcotic use, and titrating heparin drips
