Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Pediatrics for a pediatric acute and hem/oncology care position at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center requiring a compact or NC RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based pediatric unit with Level 1 Trauma and academic medical center designation
  • Units include Pediatric Hem/Oncology (PHO) and Pediatric Adolescent Medicine (PA), both with 16 beds
  • Primary patient diagnoses include leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
  • RN to patient ratios are 1:3-4 in PHO and 1:4-5 in PA
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1830-0700, with every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage is required
  • Floating is required between PHO, PA, and other pediatric units except ED
  • EMR used is Epic; IV pumps are Alaris; Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Support team includes CNAs, HUCs, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist available 24/7
  • Bedside telemetry monitoring is provided without a telemetry tech
  • Orientation includes NEO and 2 days of departmental onboarding
  • Scrub color is royal blue, with pediatric-appropriate scrub tops permitted
  • Free parking provided
  • Unit culture is team-oriented, supportive, family-centered, and focused on professional growth, education, and safety
  • First-time travelers with strong pediatric backgrounds are welcome to apply

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 1 year pediatric acute care experience for PA unit; 1 year pediatric hem/oncology acute care experience for PHO unit
  • Current BLS required for both units
  • APHON chemo certification required for PHO
  • PALS preferred for both units
  • Strong pediatric assessment, central line management, and chemotherapy administration skills required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within one year from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN
  • Candidates must not have been a permanent employee of the health system within the past year
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; locals not accepted
