Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring a CA RN license and a minimum of 2 years of experience, with day shift and every other weekend availability.
Responsibilities
- Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (3x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating may be required to other units within scope of practice, as well as to other campuses within the health system
- Travelers can typically expect approximately 1.5 hours notice prior to shift start time when floating is requested; shuttle transportation is provided between campuses
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary/renal, respiratory, and surgical patients
- Responsible for the full nursing process from admission to discharge, including assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation for Med/Surg patients
- Acts as primary nurse and serves as a liaison between nursing and medical staff to facilitate a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care
- Responds to medical and environmental emergencies, initiating and directing interventions including rapid response and code team activations
- Experience with 5150 hold patients and ETOH/withdrawal management is a plus
- Only one holiday off request will be approved for the duration of the contract
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; local candidates residing within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate
- Previous employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible to return as a traveler
- Orientation includes non-billable e-learning modules averaging 1–5 hours, completed prior to or at the start of the assignment
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; all certifications must be AHA-issued and in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required (3 years preferred)
- Proficiency with a broad range of Med/Surg skills including IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/PICC line management, blood product administration, port access, wound care/wound vac, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with respiratory support modalities including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience managing complex patient populations including CVA, TBI, spinal cord injury, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, renal failure, and pre/post hemodialysis
- Familiarity with medication management including heparin, insulin drips, IV insulin protocols, and PCA
- Two supervisory references from within the past two years required for consideration
- 7-year work history verification required
