Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring prior travel experience and strong telemetry skills.
Responsibilities
- Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 500-bed Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic teaching hospital
- Diverse patient population including medicine, cardiology, telemetry, surgical/vascular, ortho, neuro/neurosurgery, gynecology, and urology, as well as trauma and vulnerable populations
- Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 07:00–19:30
- Patient ratios are 1:3–4 on days and 1:4–5 on nights
- Every other weekend required; must be flexible with unit scheduling needs
- Floating within the hospital required to meet facility needs
- Charting via Epic (required)
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
- Provide nursing care to a broad spectrum of medical-surgical telemetry patients, including management of cardiac drips (no titration)
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Prior UW Health system staff must be separated from the facility for a minimum of 18 months before returning as a traveler
- RTO cannot be accommodated during orientation week; keep RTO requests to a minimum
- RN orientation is offered twice per month
- Pre-start online modules are required (approximately 5–6 hours); Epic module is completed during orientation
- Scrubs may be any solid color; light blue scrubs are provided on the unit
- Onsite parking is available for a daily fee; an offsite parking option is also available approximately 1 mile from the facility with weekday shuttle service (5 AM–10 PM, Monday–Friday)
Requirements
- Active WA state RN license or Compact RN license required (pending license not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3 years strongly preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Required certifications: BLS and Phlebotomy
- Preferred certifications: ACLS and CPI
- Proficient telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management required — a telemetry competency test will be administered
- Required skills: IV starts, phlebotomy, med/surg nursing, telemetry monitoring, cardiac monitoring and emergency response, medication management, and cardiac drip management (non-titration)
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
- Two references required; at least one must be from a supervisor or charge nurse
- Date of birth required for consideration
