Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Interventional Radiology position at an academic health system in San Diego, CA, requiring a valid CA RN license and prior IR or procedural experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in an Interventional Radiology unit within an acute care hospital setting
  • Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (8:00–18:30), with start times flexible based on staffing needs
  • On-call availability is required
  • Epic is the preferred EMR; Cerner charting experience is also required
  • Floating within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals may be required based on census and unit needs
  • No blocked scheduling or self-scheduling
  • 13-week contract
  • Responsibilities include circulating and scrubbing for a wide range of IR procedures across GI, GU, pulmonary, neurological, and vascular specialties
  • Additional skills utilized include malignant hyperthermia protocol, cardioversion, hypothermia protocol, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, radiation and laser safety, ACT monitoring, and PICC/central line/implanted port care
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Candidates who have previously been employed by this health system must receive facility approval prior to assignment
  • Former travelers must have been separated from the facility for at least 1 year before returning
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested; no RTO is permitted within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; RTO requests cannot be changed after submission
  • Online learning modules are completed during orientation and annually

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS; PALS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an acute care setting required; specialty experience within the past 2 years required
  • IR experience strongly preferred; extensive ICU or procedural experience may be considered in the absence of IR candidates
  • Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers may be screened on a case-by-case basis
  • Proficiency in IR procedures including angioplasty, embolization, GI/GU/pulmonary/neurological/vascular studies, and scrub procedures
  • Skills in procedural sedation administration and monitoring, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, blood product administration, and emergency medication administration
  • Must pass a PASS/FAIL EKG exam (3 attempts allowed)
  • 2 professional references required: at least one must be a supervisory/director/manager reference from the relevant unit within the past year; the second may be from a charge nurse, co-worker, or educator within the past 2 years
