Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center position requiring strong scrub and circulate skills, with mandatory float obligations across Cook County facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Hospital-based Operating Room in a Level 1 Trauma Center setting
  • Day shift schedule: 5x8s, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Every other weekend (2 weekends per month) required
  • On-call requirement: one 12-hour shift per month on a Saturday or Sunday (7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM); no weekday call
  • Specialties include Ortho, Ortho Trauma, Vascular, Urology, and General Surgery
  • Preferred experience in Neurosurgery (cranial and spine), Open Heart/Thoracic, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, and Gynecology
  • Charting system: Cerner (preferred experience)
  • This is a mandatory float facility — all clinicians are required to float at the facility's discretion, potentially to any Cook County facility within a 50-mile range with as little as 2 hours' notice
  • Block scheduling is not approved; all time off must comply with the RTO policy
  • First-time travelers will be considered provided they have Level 1 Trauma experience
  • Local candidates are accepted and preferred
  • Candidates floated outside their primary area of competency will work within a team-based care model
  • RTO is capped at 5 days maximum, with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on weekends, holidays, or the day before or after a holiday
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Returning clinicians are required to complete full recredentialing and attend orientation regardless of any prior break in contract length

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license in hand (no pending licensure accepted)
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care OR experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Strong scrub and circulate skills required
  • Must be willing and able to float to various units, including areas outside primary competency
  • Must reside within 75 miles of the facility
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required (booster not required)
