Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with strong neuro background for a night shift travel contract in Coastal Virginia, requiring Epic proficiency and VA or Compact licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Hospital ICU setting with a diverse critical care patient population including neurosurgical, post-stroke, respiratory failure, renal failure, post-surgical, trauma, sepsis/MODS, and heart failure/post-cardiac cath cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:2-3
  • Night shift, 7p–7:30a, with schedule options of 3x12 or 4x12
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required within the contract period
  • Floating required to the Stepdown Unit and may include the ED or Med/Surg to care for ICU patients being held
  • Epic EMR proficiency required — no exceptions
  • Skills required include: strong neuro experience (post-neurosurgical, EVD, stroke), mechanical ventilation, IV drip titration, telemetry monitoring, conscious/procedural sedation, and dysrhythmia and emergency management
  • Responsibilities include managing complex, critically ill patients across neurosurgical, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and multisystem diagnoses
  • Advanced skills utilized include arterial line management, central line care, CVVHD/CRRT, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, hypothermia protocol, continuous IV sedation and paralytics, and vasoactive/cardiac drip titration
  • Pre-start online modules are required (approximately 3 hours) prior to the first day
  • Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted and will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis
  • Travel experience is preferred but not required — first-time travelers will be considered
  • This is an auto-offer position for qualified candidates

Requirements

  • Active VA or Compact RN license currently in hand — no exceptions
  • Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 3 years of critical care experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience will be considered
  • Strong neuro ICU experience required, including post-neurosurgical care, external ventricular drain (EVD) management, and stroke management
  • Epic EMR proficiency required
  • No prior license or background hits will be accepted — no exceptions
  • Must be able to pass an EKG rhythm strip exam with a score of 80% or higher (one attempt, no remediation)
  • Must pass standard N95 fit testing — PAPR accommodations are not available
  • Candidate must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible for consideration
  • Driver's license required for address verification prior to any offer acceptance
  • Two professional references required
