Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Float (Resource Team) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Level 1 or 2 trauma background in a large hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Acute care hospital setting with a 32-bed ICU unit
- Floats across all critical care departments, including the primary ICU (5CD), Intermediate ICU (ratios up to 4:1), and Broadway ICU (ratios up to 3:1), as well as med/surg units as needed
- Patient population includes critically ill neuro, cardiac, cardiothoracic surgery, trauma, medical, and surgical patients
- Primary nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2; intermediate settings may reach 1:3 or 1:4; med/surg float assignments up to 1:3
- Performs and assists with bedside procedures including RSI, EVD placement, tracheostomy, central line placement, and other diagnostic procedures
- Manages vasopressors, sedatives, analgesics, inotropes, antiarrhythmics, and other titratable drips
- Equipment includes Aleris IV pumps, MOOG feeding pumps, IABP, EVD, Impella, Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinet, Phillips Patient Monitoring Systems, and AvaSure patient monitoring
- Charting is done in Epic EMR
- Day/Night rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts; occasional 8-hour and 4-hour shifts may occur
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call responsibilities
- 13-week contract with 36 hours per week
- Travelers must call in each day prior to their shift to confirm which critical care unit or location they will be working that day
- Orientation totals 32 hours during the first week: 8 hours of hospital orientation, 8 hours on the primary unit (5CD), 4 hours in the Intermediate ICU, and 12 hours in the Broadway ICU
- Nurses do not work alone in this setting
- Candidates who have previously worked for Sanford Health must have an end date at least 6 months prior to the date of consideration
- Candidates living between 60 and 80 miles from the facility may be eligible but are subject to a local travel pay rate
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Badging in and out at the facility is required
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact RN license required
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma facility with 250+ beds required
- Demonstrated experience titrating vasopressor drips required (must be reflected on resume or skills checklist)
- Epic EMR experience required
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor in the same specialty within the last 3 years
- Certifications must be active at time of consideration — no pending certifications accepted
- Candidates must not reside within 60 miles of the facility
