Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float Pool position requiring at least 2 years of PCU experience, telemetry skills, and an active CA RN license for a night shift contract across multiple hospital campuses.
Responsibilities
- Float pool assignment covering up to four hospital campuses across the San Diego area
- PCU/IMU float covering general medicine, surgical, neuro, oncology, cardiac, and orthopedic patient populations
- May float to the emergency department inpatient overflow (EDIP) unit as needed
- Floating down to med/surg (MS) permitted when census allows
- Patient ratios: IMU 1:3, Telemetry 1:4, MS 1:5
- EMR: Epic and Pyxis (Cerner experience also required)
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- 4-week schedule is provided two weeks in advance; no blocked or self-scheduling permitted
- RN will receive a call 2 hours before each shift notifying them of which campus they will work that day
- Candidate may be transitioned to a new cardiology/neuro unit on the east campus if it becomes active during the contract
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously been employed by this health system must receive facility approval prior to starting an assignment
- Former employees must have been separated for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- No RTO may be requested within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of application and cannot be changed after submission
- A pass/fail EKG exam is required (up to 3 attempts allowed)
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
- Cardiology and/or neuro skills are a plus, as the candidate may be moved to a new unit on the east campus if it activates during the contract
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
- At least 1 year of acute care experience in a specialty area within the past 2 years
- Required certifications: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- BLS required
- IV start, telemetry monitoring, phlebotomy, and arterial line (A-line) experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required; Epic experience preferred
- Must be comfortable working across all four float pool locations
- At least one supervisory/manager/director reference from within the past year (from the submitting unit) required for consideration
- A second professional reference within the past 2 years (charge nurse, co-worker, or educator) is also required
