Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with a minimum of 2 years of experience and Trauma Level I background for a 16-week travel contract requiring Epic proficiency and the ability to scrub all major surgical specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Large academic medical center setting with 500+ beds, designated Trauma Level I
  • Operating Room (OR) unit
  • 10-hour rotating shifts covering day and evening schedules, typically three shifts per shift type per week
  • Off-shift options include 0845–1915, 1045–2115, or 1245–2315
  • Weekday call required once per week, plus one 24-hour call per four-week scheduling block
  • Schedule runs Monday through Sunday with no block scheduling
  • Must be flexible with scheduling to meet unit and patient care needs
  • Epic EMR utilized on this unit
  • Responsible for both circulating and scrubbing across a wide range of surgical specialties in a high-acuity Trauma Level I environment
  • Bi-weekly orientations are held on Mondays
  • All employment gaps exceeding 90 days must be explained in the work history
  • Complete work history including bed count, EMR system, facility type, and trauma level is required
  • Candidates residing 51–100 miles from the facility and those residing 50 miles or less are eligible at different pay tiers based on distance measured in a straight line, not driving distance
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to the prior travel experience requirement

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Vermont (VT) or a Compact state; candidates without a VT license are accepted, and NY candidates may be considered with proof of a pending NY license
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience in a large (500+ bed), Trauma Level I facility required
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years is required and non-negotiable
  • Ability to both circulate and scrub required
  • Must be able to scrub all surgical specialties except CVOR, including general OR, GU, GYN, ENT, eyes, plastics, laparoscopic, trauma, thoracic, and vascular cases
  • Two professional references from a Nurse Manager and/or Supervisor required — one from within the past 6 months, and one from within the past year of employment
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • Reliable personal transportation is required, as public transit is not accessible in this area; vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires from November through April
