Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an IMC (Intermediate Care) position managing ED boarding patients, requiring prior travel experience and DC RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work setting is an Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) within a hospital, caring for admitted patients who are boarding in the ED while awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Patient population includes adults with varying diagnoses requiring intermediate-level monitoring and care
- Patient ratio is 1:4–5
- Shift is nights, 3x12 hours (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating is required to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Primary charting system is Cerner
- Medication dispensing via Pyxis
- Responsible for assuming care of admitted patients boarding in the ED while awaiting placement on an inpatient unit, managing a diverse range of diagnoses and acuity levels
- Preferred experience includes cardiac telemetry, ER holding, and PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown settings
- Must be willing and able to care for COVID-19 patients
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility should contact American Traveler for rate details
- All scheduling and time-off requests must be communicated at the time of initial application
Requirements
- Active DC RN license required; pending DC license accepted provided proof of pending status is submitted and license is in hand prior to start date
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and 100% on lethal rhythms
- Required skills include: telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration, heparin protocols, PCA management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, and isolation precautions
- 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
