Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring at least 6 months of Trauma Level I experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care hospital ED/Trauma unit with 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays
- High-volume department serving approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day), including trauma, burns, and psych hold patients (30–40 daily)
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors; ability to read strips required
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Float may occur between up to 4 facilities (St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, and 2 free-standing ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale), approximately 30 minutes apart; mid-shift float is possible
- Personal vehicle required for float assignments
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (active, non-pending): BLS, ACLS, and PALS — ENPC is not an acceptable substitute for PALS
- Minimum 2 years of ED/ER experience required
- Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level I ED experience required
- Proficiency with telemetry strip reading required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed; failure of both results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit AZ facilities)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required (used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
Additional Information
- Navy scrubs required
- Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- On Day 1 of orientation, nurses complete a pass/fail skills assessment — a study guide is provided in advance
- All RNs assigned to main or Westgate campuses must complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath access; breaking sterile field during the SIMs Lab may result in immediate termination
- Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts on the floor
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) manages ventilators and is available 24/7; pharmacy staffing is 24/7 with a pharmacist in the ED 10 hours per day
- Unit is staffed with 2 charge RNs (light or no patient load) and 4 PCTs serving as sitters
- Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN
- TNCC and ATCN certifications are preferred but not required
