Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU/CTICU) position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and CVICU background preferred.

• Work setting is an acute care hospital Cardiovascular/Coronary Care ICU (CTICU/CVICU) with 24 beds
• Level I Trauma Center
• Patient population includes cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CABG, CRRT, ECMO, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, TAVR, esophagectomy, lobectomy, and pneumectomy cases
• Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
• Common bedside procedures include bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter insertions, and epidurals
• Charting is done in Cerner EMR
• Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used
• No IV team on unit — strong IV skills required
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7; pharmacy supports transplant patients
• Intensivist on-site during days and on-call at night; charge nurse has no patient assignment
• PCTs (2) available during days and nights at high census
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
• Holiday coverage based on unit rotation
• Floating required to other ICUs, all telemetry units (ratio 4:1), and the Westgate campus; travelers float before permanent staff

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• CCRN preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience strongly preferred
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Strong IV skills required (no IV team on unit)
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Primary responsibilities include managing high-acuity cardiovascular and surgical patients, including those on IABP, ECMO, CRRT, and post-CABG recovery; travelers with IABP and CABG experience may take patients immediately
• On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — failure to maintain sterile field may result in immediate termination
• Orientation also includes education on lifts, restraints, and wound care
• Failing both attempts on the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the SIMs Lab sterile technique test results in a 6-month DNU status with the CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento regions
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
• Scrub color: Navy
• Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
• Male nurses must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Travelers are required to have their own personal vehicle
• 2-day floor-specific orientation provided
