Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU/CTICU) position at a Level I Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience with cardiac patient exposure.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a 24-bed CVICU/CTICU unit
  • High-acuity patient population including cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, TAVR, esophagectomy, lobectomy, and pneumectomy cases
  • Patient ratios of 1:1–2, with a high volume of 1:1 assignments
  • 12-hour day shifts (7am–7pm)
  • 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage worked into unit rotation
  • Charting via Cerner EMR
  • Philips telemetry monitoring system in use
  • Intensivist on-site during days and on-call at night
  • RT and pharmacy available 24/7; pharmacy supports transplant patients
  • No dedicated IV team — strong IV skills are required
  • 2 PCTs available during days and nights at high census
  • Floating required to other ICUs and telemetry units (4:1 ratio on tele); travelers float before permanent staff
  • Floating to a secondary campus may also be required
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience preferred; ICU RNs with cardiac patient experience will be considered
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • Experience with IABP and CABG preferred for higher-acuity patient assignments
  • Strong IV skills required (no IV team on unit)
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address is verified via driver's license
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses who break sterile field may be terminated
  • Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Floor-specific orientation is 2 days on the unit
  • Bedside procedures are frequent and include bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter placements, and epidurals
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; male nurses must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Personal vehicle required — travel teams must provide their own transportation
  • Candidates not eligible for this position if they fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam on both attempts; failure results in a 6-month DNU status with CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento regions
