Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of CVICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

- 18-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) in an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Patient population includes post-open heart, complex thoracic and vascular patients, as well as cases from the cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
- Common diagnoses and procedures include advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs, and stabilization with devices such as Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
- 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips — no telemetry techs on unit
- RNs are responsible for ventilator and respiratory equipment management including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or as needed based on unit needs
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- No CNAs or patient care techs on the unit
- Charge nurse present on each shift; charge nurse takes an assignment
- Intensivist and hospitalist are in-house 24/7
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 1 year of experience with CVICU patient population required
- Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
- Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
- Proficiency with respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify permanent residence outside the 50-mile radius)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity; candidates who were employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% — failure to pass results in contract termination
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Interview with facility manager (non-clinical) required
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to comply will result to contract termination
