Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

- 24-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma hospital that is also a Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses across cardiac, respiratory, and neuro conditions in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 on both day and night shifts, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7–8
- CNA support available at a 1:12 ratio; no HUC on unit
- Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely via telemetry technician
- Charge nurse is always available as a resource and may carry a patient assignment
- Additional support includes phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist during days (virtual evenings/overnight), and intensivist (24/7)
- EMR is Epic; minimum 6 months of Epic experience required
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Masimo in all rooms
- 12-hour day shifts, 0645–1915 (with a secondary shift option of 1845–0715)
- 36 hours per week; schedule cycles every 6 weeks
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Floating is required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs and within scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months)
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; contracted hours must still be met
- Potential for low census call; RNs may be called off for an entire shift or placed on call up until 0300 or 1500
- Navy scrubs required
