Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and CVICU background preferred.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care, Level I Trauma hospital in a 24-bed CTICU/CVICU unit (T4)
- High-acuity patient population including cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CABG, ECMO, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, TAVR, esophagectomy, lobectomy, and pneumonectomy
- Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- Shift schedule is 12-hour days, 7am–7pm
- Weekend requirement is 3 shifts per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage rotates based on unit needs
- Floating required to other ICUs and telemetry units (4:1 ratio on tele); travelers float before permanent staff and may be asked to float to a secondary campus
- EMR: Cerner
- Monitoring equipment: Philips telemetry
- No IV team on unit; strong IV skills required
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience strongly preferred
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS — must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- CCRN preferred
- Experience with IABP and CABG required to take those patient assignments
- Strong IV skills required (no IV team on unit)
- Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include caring for high-acuity cardiovascular and surgical patients with frequent bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter insertions, and epidurals
- Intensivist is on-site during days and on call at night; charge nurse is available with no patient assignment; PCTs (2) are available on days and nights during high census
- 2-day floor-specific orientation provided
- Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
- Additional Day 1 orientation includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Scrub color: Navy
- Candidates must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; permanent address is verified via driver's license
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible — prior travel or equivalent experience in a high-acuity CVICU setting is expected given unit complexity
