Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position at a Level II Trauma center requiring a minimum of 1 year of ICU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work setting is an acute care hospital ICU (2nd floor MICU/SICU) with 16 beds
• Level II Trauma center
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Common patient diagnoses and procedures include CRRT (Prismaflex), rotaprone, TTM (Arctic Sun), mass transfusions, train-of-4/paralytic drips, ECMO, 24-hour EEG monitoring, EVD, LP drain, neurosurgery, MTP, trauma (drownings, tractor rollovers, fractures, MVAs), spinal injuries, sepsis, DKA, post-op recovery, COVID, post-heart cath/sheath pulls, SI, bedside procedures (trachs, chest tube insertion, bronchoscopies, art line insertion), and organ procurement
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, pressors, anti-arrhythmics, sedation, and other common ICU drips
• Allscripts EMR used in this position
• 12-hour night shifts (7 PM start), 3 shifts per week
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday rotation shared with core staff
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating to PCU/CVICU is possible but infrequent; floating is typically as a helper rather than taking a full assignment
• Telemetry monitoring tech on unit; RNs are required to interpret their own strips (Draeger monitors)
• 24/7 intensivist and hospitalist (MD and NP) coverage in-house
• Respiratory therapy assigned 24/7 to ICU/PCU with all respiratory equipment available
• Nurse aides available on the unit
• Scheduling is done 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteed

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; PALS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
• Prior experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma center required
• Experience in a hospital with 300+ beds required
• CRRT experience highly preferred
• Experience pulling sheaths preferred

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the hired shift and unit; the first day is 12–14 hours to complete competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientation
• Charge nurse on days is typically a facility staff nurse; nights may be covered by the house supervisor — both take a reduced assignment to assist the team
• Scrub color requirement: black
