Description
American Traveler is seeking a Physical Therapist with 2+ years of acute inpatient experience for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital in Bakersfield, CA.
Details
- Acute inpatient setting covering Medical/Surgical, ICU, and ER departments
- Patient population includes general medical/deconditioned, TKA, THA, spinal surgery, general orthopedic, and CVA patients
- Caseload of approximately 12 patients per day
- Charting is performed in Cerner EMR
- Primary schedule is 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with occasional shifts of 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM one day per week
- 8-hour day shifts; every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
- Weekend requirement is one weekend every third weekend, with the Monday and Friday off those weekends
- No holiday coverage required
- No PTAs on staff; one rehab aide covers the hospital
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute inpatient PT experience required
- Active CA PT license required at time of consideration — license required if applicable
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Experience treating in Medical/Surgical, ICU, and ER environments
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration

- Responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of acute inpatient populations across Med/Surg, ICU, and ER
- Orientation includes general hospital orientation followed by several days in each coverage area to become familiar with workflows and the EMR system
- Scrub dress code requires burgundy polo top with scrub or khaki bottoms
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
