Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position requiring at least 2 years of experience, PCU background, and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips on a night shift schedule.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
- Med/Tele/PCU unit — more of a cardiac/telemetry-focused unit with PCU-level care overflow
- 32-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, BiPAP/COVID, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5 (occasional 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level care overflow ratio of 1:3
- RNs required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips; telemetry portable monitors and in-room monitors supported by a monitor tech at the nurses' station
- RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- RT equipment on unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs expected to manage and troubleshoot these devices
- Charge nurse present on both shifts and may occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3 patients
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- EMR: Epic (preferred, not required)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float; float areas include all units as helping hands, PCU for full PCU patient load, Med/Surg for full assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac/telemetry strips required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
Additional Information
- Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning the following Sunday
- Any scrub color is acceptable
- RTO of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Manager interview required as part of the selection process
