Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Multi Care Unit (MCU) position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience, Cerner proficiency, and an active AZ or Compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a 10-bed Multi Care Unit (MCU) that manages all three acuity levels on a single unit — ICU, PCU, and Med/Surg Tele (MST) — without floating between units for primary assignment
- Patient population includes medical ICU cases such as sepsis, suicide attempts, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, post-op complications, and PCU patients on non-titratable infusions
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6; if no nurse aide is available, RN takes 3 patients with primary care responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Respiratory therapy supports ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP on the unit
- Telemetry is present; Remote Monitor Techs cover PCU and MST patients; ICU RNs monitor patients via bedside cardiac monitor; RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday for nights)
- Holiday rotation applies to distribute holidays fairly
- Float requirements include floating to the EC MST and Pediatric unit (adult MST assignments) and to the West Campus ICU/PCU with a minimum two-hour notice before floating
- First to float policy applies
- Low census standby rotation in effect
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year ICU and 1 year PCU/Med-Surg from a larger facility may be considered with strong demonstrated skills
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (active, non-pending)
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Ability to titrate drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin) required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Must pass a sterile technique competency test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as indicated on driver's license)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past 12 months; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
Additional Information
- Provide ICU, PCU, and MST-level nursing care within a combined acuity unit structure; charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds including MST, Peds, and the MCU
- Nurse aides cover 10–15 patients; when no aide is available, RN assumes primary care for PCU and MST patients
- Orientation consists of hospital orientation followed by unit-specific orientation (12 hours total)
- Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test on the second attempt will be ineligible for all CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region positions for 6 months
- A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
- Any scrub color may be worn except camouflage
