Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical-Surgical/Orthopedic Telemetry unit at a short-term acute care teaching hospital in Washington, DC, requiring a DC RN license and at least 1.5 years of acute care travel experience.
Details
- Work in a busy surgical orthopedic unit (6 Main) within a 402-bed short-term acute care teaching hospital
- Patient population includes complex medical-surgical and orthopedic surgical cases such as primary and revision total joint replacements (hip and knee), spine surgery, ankle replacement, and total shoulder replacement
- Patient length of stay typically ranges from 1–5 days
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Telemetry monitoring is part of unit care
- Charting via Cerner; medications dispensed via Pyxis
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:00
- Every other weekend required (50% weekend commitment)
- On-call required on a rotating basis in turn with unit staff
- Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active DC RN license required; pending DC license accepted provided proof of pending status is submitted at time of consideration and license must be in hand prior to start date
- Current BLS certification required
- BSN preferred
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of acute care travel experience required
- First-time travelers considered with a minimum of 4 years of total nursing experience
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Ability to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
Additional Information
- Multidisciplinary rounds are held Monday–Friday with clinical nurses, charge nurse, NP or PA, and case manager to coordinate patient care
- Collaborative team environment focused on delivering exceptional care to surgical orthopedic patients
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable; no hospital logos permitted and scrubs are not provided by the unit
- SBAR communication framework used on the unit
- 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of submission
- Candidates with a BSN should ensure it is reflected in their credentials
