Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and night shift availability.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care hospital Neuro unit (6N) with 48 total beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
  • Patient population includes epilepsy, 24-48 hour trend EEGs, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neurological diagnoses
  • Primarily a Med/Surg unit with some telemetry required
  • Patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights
  • Charge nurse is present with no patient assignment; one resource RN is available on days and nights
  • PCTs available: 1-2 on days, 1 at night
  • Respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, IV SWAT team, and pharmacy support are all available 24/7
  • BiPAP ventilators in use; managed by respiratory therapy
  • Charting system is Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period; self-scheduling
  • Floating may be required to Med/Surg and Telemetry floors
  • Holiday rotation required based on unit coverage needs

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Required certifications (active, not pending): BLS and ACLS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Strong telemetry and dysrhythmia recognition skills required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
  • Strong critical thinking, neurological assessment, and early change-detection skills required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration; used to verify permanent address
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates

Additional Information

  • BSN and Med/Surg or Telemetry certification are preferred but not required
  • On Day 1 of orientation, travelers must pass a pass/fail SIMs lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
  • Orientation also includes educational components on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
  • Med/Surg and Telemetry RNs with strong skills will receive training in cranial nerve assessment
  • Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven (for fit testing purposes)
  • Scrub color required: Grey's Anatomy steel
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
