Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a Level III NICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience and the ability to titrate drips, working night shifts on a 13-week contract.

Details

• Level III NICU in an acute care hospital setting with 22 beds in an open-bed concept layout
• Intermediate and more critical patients are separated on either side of the unit, with the RN station centrally positioned in a fishbowl setup
• Patient population includes premature infants (23 weeks and up), RDS, SGA, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, IUGR, and infants requiring intubation and bubble CPAP; no surgical cases or G-tube placements
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2–3, up to 1:4 for feeder-grower or stable patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including antibiotics, multivitamins, iron, surfactant, TPN, and epinephrine
• NICU RNs, including charge nurses, attend deliveries under 36 weeks gestation to assist with APGAR scoring
• RT equipment includes bubble CPAP and ventilators
• Charting is performed in Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend requirement
• First to float; floating may occur to the newborn nursery or pediatrics as assigned, with helping hands responsibilities otherwise
• No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
• Minimum 2 years of Level III or Level IV NICU experience required
• Ability to titrate drips is required
• A driver's license must be provided for consideration
• Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

• 2-shift unit-specific orientation provided
• Hospital scrubs are provided
• NICU RNs attend deliveries under 36 weeks to assist with APGAR scoring alongside charge nurses and NNPs
• Neonatologist coverage is provided during the day; NNP coverage is provided overnight
• A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes patient assignments
• Nurse aides or patient care techs are available only as needed during busy periods
• 2 holidays per year are required
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
