Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a Renal Unit, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a willingness to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details
- Work setting is a 207-bed hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation (no trauma designation, not a teaching hospital)
- Assigned to the 3N Medical Telemetry/Renal Unit (31 beds) on the first day of orientation
- Patient population includes end stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis (PD), fluid overload, sickle cell, diabetes mellitus (DM), altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, pancreatitis, and behavioral health
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 (up to 1:7–8 during critical surge)
- CNA ratio is 1:6–12
- Specialized skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley), and PCA pumps
- Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- EMR is Epic; experience with Epic is preferred
- IV pump is Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitors are Philips
- Schedule is 12-hour day shifts (0700–1900), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating is required within scope of practice to all units at the home facility and across regional facilities as needed — candidates who are not agreeable to regional floating should not apply
- Depending on the requisition, floating region may include facilities such as Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and the Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital)
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license (currently in hand) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficient general Med/Tele skillset required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke experience, trach care, chest tube management, and IV drip management
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must permanently reside more than 50 miles from the facility (local candidates are not accepted)
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Departmental orientation consists of NEO plus 2 days of unit-specific orientation
- Unit support staff includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT Team (11a–7p and 11p–7a), respiratory therapy (24/7), a hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist coverage
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; time may need to be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
- Scheduling cycles are set every 6 weeks
- Required scrub color is navy
- Parking is free
