Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on a 3N Renal Unit, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Located in a 207-bed, non-trauma, non-teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation
  • Assignment is on the 3N Medical Telemetry unit, a 31-bed renal-focused floor
  • Patient population includes end-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis (PD), fluid overload, sickle cell, diabetes mellitus, altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, pancreatitis, and behavioral health
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with critical surge ratios up to 1:7–8
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating is required across all units within scope at the home facility, as well as to other facilities within the assigned regional division — candidates who are not agreeable to regional floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic; IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficient general Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Home unit assignment is made on the first day of orientation
  • Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) period followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team (11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM), a resource nurse (as staffing allows), respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7, a hospitalist 24/7, and an intensivist available in-house until 11 PM on weekdays and until 7 PM on weekends with VCC and on-call coverage overnight
  • Scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved (excluding holidays); if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • A clinical interview is required
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
