Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step-Down Unit position requiring Epic proficiency, strong neuro experience, and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience.

Details

• Step-Down Unit (SDU) in a hospital setting near Chesapeake, VA — located minutes from Virginia Beach and Norfolk in Coastal Virginia
• General SDU with a diverse patient population including pulmonary (acute respiratory failure, COPD, CHF), cardiac (NSTEMI/STEMI, AFIB with RVR, heart block awaiting AICD/pacemaker), sepsis, minor trauma, CIWA, DKA, and occasional vascular/post-op surgical patients
• Typical patient ratio is 1:4, occasionally 1:5
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30), weekdays and every other weekend
• Holiday coverage required within the contract period
• Floating is required — travelers rotate to MS/Tele, ER Holding, and similar units with ratios as high as 1:6 or 1:7
• No block scheduling available
• Epic EMR — proficiency required, no exceptions
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Virginia (VA) or Compact RN license required
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3+ years preferred
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Strong neuro nursing experience required
• Proficiency with ventilators, IV starts, telemetry monitoring, PA lines, conscious sedation, neuro IV titration, and insulin IV drips
• Epic EMR proficiency required — no exceptions
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a valid Driver's License must be provided for address verification prior to any offer acceptance
• Two professional references required for consideration
• No active license or background issues will be considered

Additional Information

• Candidates are expected to float to other units (MS/Tele, ER Holding, etc.) on a rotating basis and should be comfortable managing higher patient ratios
• All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed at the time of application
• This position is located in Chesapeake, VA — a short drive from Virginia Beach and Norfolk, offering access to outdoor trails and over 20 waterways
