Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a 337-bed hospital in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and availability for night shifts with every-other-weekend rotation.

Details

  • 34-bed Med/Surg Tele unit at a non-trauma, community hospital that is a designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes medical diagnoses such as DKA, sepsis, CHF, AKI, pneumonia, diabetes, anemia, and sickle cell crisis, as well as surgical cases including pancreatitis, spinal fusions, and orthopedic total joint replacements (knees/hips)
  • Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every-other-weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating is required within Region 2, which includes Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
  • EMR: Epic
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurses, unit clerks, clinical supervisors, and staff are responsible for reading and posting telemetry every shift

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
  • General med/surg skills required, including care of patients with tubes and drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a 24/7 receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a unit-dedicated pharmacist, two case managers, a Med/Surg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy (including nebulizer treatments), a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
  • Orientation consists of a nursing education orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
  • Free parking is available on site

  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated from that facility for at least 1 year to be eligible
