Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Hospital setting with a 34-bed Med/Surg Tele unit averaging a census of 32 patients
• Patient population includes medical diagnoses such as DKA, sepsis, CHF, AKI, pneumonia, sickle cell crisis, and anemia, as well as surgical cases including spinal fusions, pancreatitis, and orthopedic total joint replacements (knees/hips)
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–1:8
• EMR: Epic
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; communication: Rover
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required within Region 2, which includes Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates unwilling to float should not apply
• No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
• General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
• Epic EMR experience
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Unit telemetry monitoring is read and documented by unit staff each shift — no remote tele monitoring is in place
• Robust unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a 24/7 receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a dedicated unit pharmacist, two case managers, a Med/Surg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy (handles nebulizer treatments), a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
• Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
• Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
