Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Acute Telemetry position on a Trauma, Ortho, and Surgical unit requiring at least 2 years of tele experience and Level 1 trauma background.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 30-bed Surgical Acute Telemetry unit (Tower 8) focused on trauma, orthopedics, and surgical patients
- Common patient population includes post-op transplants (day 1), Whipple procedures, spine surgeries, ortho joint replacements, and trauma cases — high volume of transplant and Whipple patients
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5
- Charting performed in Cerner EMR
- Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; ventilatory support includes BiPAP and CPAP
- SWAT RN (IV team), RT, and pharmacy support available 24/7
- 12-hour day shifts
- 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage integrated into permanent staff rotation
- Floating required to Observation, VMU, T6, T5, 6N, 5N, and other Med/Surg and Tele units
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Proficiency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes using sterile technique is essential
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Day 1 orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses who break sterile field have been dismissed during this assessment
- Orientation also includes educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- Navy scrubs required
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Candidates must have their own personal vehicle
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Failing the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique assessment on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status with CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento region facilities
