Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position on a neuroscience-focused acute care unit at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 1 year of RN experience and an active SC or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital — a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated teaching facility with 820 staffed beds
- Unit is an 24-bed neuroscience-focused acute care unit with a surgical focus (8W Neuro/General Surgery); patient population includes neuroscience and general medicine patients depending on census
- No step-down component on this unit
- Patient ratio is 1:4–5 depending on staffing
- Charting is done in Epic
- Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM), 36 hours/week
- Requires 3–4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Holiday rotation required
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
Requirements
- Active SC or Compact/Multi-State RN license required; candidates with a pending SC license may be considered but must be fully licensed before reporting
- Current BLS certification required (AHA only)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- SSN and Driver's License required for consideration
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred
- Neuro experience preferred
- Epic experience preferred
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent or PRN staff at any MUSC location must have been separated from the system for at least 1 year before being eligible to work as a traveler
- Local candidates (within 60 miles of the facility) are accepted on a case-by-case basis; non-local candidates are prioritized
- Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are considered local
- Block scheduling may be requested but is subject to manager approval and unit needs
- Online orientation modules are completed prior to the start date (approximately 4 hours)
- Scrub color requirement: solid royal blue or white top with royal blue bottoms
- Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June–November), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams; peak activity months are August and September
- Parking is available at a nearby garage for a one-time $20 registration fee for a hang tag; the hang tag is valid only for that specific garage
