Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/HVU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1 year of PCU-specific experience and cardiac procedural recovery skills on 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- 44-bed Heart & Vascular Unit (HVU) operating as a mixed-acuity unit encompassing Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med/Surg levels of care
- Patient population includes MI/NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmia management, pacemaker malfunction, epicardial pacers, post cardiac cath, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, and post pacemaker insertion; also serves as backup stroke unit and medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, adjustable to 1:3 based on acuity
- Charting system: Epic; Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing are also used
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other basis
- Floating primarily to sister General PCU unit; may also float to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU-level patients, within scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license issued by the South Dakota Board of Nursing (SD state or compact license) required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year specific to PCU
- Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG, TAVR, post cardiac cath), MI pharmacology, and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Levophed, Dopamine) and Heparin drips required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and chest tube management required
- TNK administration experience preferred
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNA (1:5–8 ratio), unassigned charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalist in-facility 24/7, and tele tech overseeing cardiac monitoring (RN confirms strips at 6am and 6pm)
- Orientation consists of 2 partial days of facility/unit education followed by 3 12-hour shifts on the unit
- First-time travelers are considered with 2 or more years of experience
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any facility in the health system to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a travel nurse
- No time off is approved during the first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally period); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with an extension required for a full week off
- May be expected to precept nursing students
