Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to float across all birth center roles including triage, postpartum, newborn care, and OR circulating.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a 14-bed LDRP unit where laboring patients remain in the same room throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
- Unit also includes 2 OR suites (staffed for C-sections), 3 triage beds, and a 5-bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery for infants >1800g
- Special Care Nursery cares for infants requiring phototherapy, blood glucose management, opiate withdrawal management, antibiotics, respiratory support, and grower/feeder care
- Common patient diagnoses include multiples (twins, not triplets), VBACs, high-risk patients (HTN/hemorrhage), antepartum preterm labor, infections, and post-op GYN
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and through recovery, dedicated baby nurse at every birth, up to 1:3 in the Special Care Nursery based on acuity, and 1:2-3 couplets for recovered moms
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Mag and Pitocin per physician order, and monitor epidurals post-initiation with rates set by Anesthesia
- Centricity Perinatal used for fetal heart monitoring; EPIC used for medical records — no monitor techs, RNs are responsible for interpreting their own fetal strips
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730), three shifts per week
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for overnights)
- First to float within the birth center only — floating roles include L&D nurse, triage, baby nurse for normal newborn transitions, postpartum (couplet care), and OR circulator; no floating outside the birth center
- Floating to the Special Care Nursery only if the candidate has Level 2 nursery experience and it is agreed upon prior to the start of the contract
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active WA state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years of L&D experience required
- Triage experience required
- Level 2 nursery experience required for newborn care responsibilities
- Labor nurses must be able to circulate C-sections; scrubbing experience preferred but not required
- Experience titrating OB drips (Mag, Pitocin) and monitoring epidurals required
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- 2-day unit orientation with a preceptor
- Hospital scrubs are provided and required
- Holidays are rotated with permanent staff
- OB or certified midwife is in-house 24/7; neonatal hospitalists are on-site 24/5 and within 30 minutes at all other times
- A dedicated anesthesia team is in-house specifically for OB; a surgical tech is available 24/7 for C-sections
- A charge nurse is present on every shift overseeing the department without a patient assignment
- Small, collaborative team — candidates who are strong team players and willing to contribute across roles are encouraged to apply
- Traveler-friendly environment with a positive team culture among current staff and providers
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
