Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • 20-bed Cardiovascular ICU within a 247-licensed-bed, Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital with a nationally ranked congenital cardiology program
  • High-acuity pediatric patient population ages 0–18 with congenital heart conditions, pre/post-transplant management, post-open heart surgery, s/p cath lab procedures, and support devices including VADs, ECMO, Impella, and Aquadex (renal replacement therapy)
  • Patient ratios vary based on acuity: 1:1, 2:1, or 1:2
  • Unit is structured with two mirrored 10-bed pods and a centralized nurses station, with the most critical patients positioned closest to the station
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend or fewer (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • On-call requirement applies based on scheduling needs
  • Floating may be required to PICU, NICU, and General Peds as needed
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a comparable-acuity setting
  • Most recent experience must be within the past year
  • Hands-on experience with fresh post-op open heart patients and transplant patients required
  • Proficiency with specialty devices: Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, and ECMO required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated from a permanent position for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays (unit standard is every other holiday)
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • Orientation includes a general facility (NEO) session plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit support includes a unit secretary every shift, a free-floating charge nurse, a free-floating resource nurse, an IV/VAT team, and an RT, cardiologist, and intensivist available 24/7
  • Monitoring is centralized and at the bedside; no dedicated telemetry monitoring tech
  • Required scrub color is navy
  • On-site parking is complimentary
