Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PICU travel assignment at a children's hospital in Newark, NJ, requiring 3+ years of pediatric critical care experience and an active NJ or Compact RN license.
Details
- Pediatric ICU (PICU) setting within a children's hospital
- 19-bed PICU unit
- Patient ratio of 1:2 or greater
- Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Floating to Pediatrics and NICU may be required based on skill set and hospital needs
- Charting system: Epic
- Medtronic pacemakers and telemetry monitoring experience required
- Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, mechanical ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomies required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 3 years of PICU critical care experience required
- 1 year of cardiac experience strongly preferred; both PICU and cardiac experience must be documented on the skills checklist
- Certifications required: BLS and PALS; NRP preferred
- Proficiency with Medtronic pacemakers and telemetry monitoring
- Hands-on experience with BiPAP/CPAP, mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula, and trach care
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Two current professional references required
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Additional Information
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- Former RWJBH staff (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the RWJBH health system for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for a travel assignment

Unit is traveler friendly. Multiple RNs to a room for day shift. Must be a strong, well rounded circulator cases vary greatly. If you're in the room you most likely are the senior nurse.
Cons
If you hate precepting, this is not the place for you.
