Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring NIH Stroke Scale certification and at least one prior travel assignment.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting with 48 beds
• Telemetry and medically complex patient population, including Med/Surg level patients in a setting without a direct ICU escalation path
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1, may flex up to 5:1
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, three days per week (0.9 FTE)
• Weekends required as needed
• On-call and call-back coverage required as needed
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required
• No charge nurse or preceptor responsibilities

Requirements

• Active RN license for the state of New Mexico or a valid Compact RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Minimum ADN or ASN degree required
• At least 2 years of current experience in a telemetry or progressive care unit of 18+ beds
• Successful completion of at least one 13-week travel assignment required
• Must pass an on-site Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test prior to starting the assignment

Additional Information

• Provides direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation
• Coordinates care through collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team
• Supervises LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel as needed
• Recognizes, de-escalates, and responds to deteriorating patient conditions
• The BCA test is administered on-site on the first day of orientation; candidates may retake the test once if they do not pass — a second failure will result in contract termination
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Former permanent staff of Presbyterian Health Services must wait one year before being considered as a traveler
• Scrubs must be solid colors with matching tops and bottoms
