Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience and an active Oklahoma or Compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the Med/Surg Tele unit of an acute care hospital
• Level 3 Trauma Center with 171 staffed beds
• Cares for patients with diagnoses including altered mental status, CHF, stroke, ortho, surgical needs, DKA, and infections
• May care for patients with mental health diagnoses
• Patient ratios of 1:5, with occasional 1:6-7
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:30-7:00)
• Required to work 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
• Uses EPIC charting system
• Scrub color varies by unit

Requirements

• Active Oklahoma or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience in a hospital setting required within the past year
• PCU experience will not be accepted in lieu of direct Med/Surg experience
• EPIC charting experience required within the past year
• Cardiac care self-rating of 3 or above required; basic dysrhythmia training preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with central line blood draw, peripheral line care, and PICC line management
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience administering heparin and insulin
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and telemetry remote monitoring skills required
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
• First-time travelers with 4+ years of Med/Surg Tele experience will be considered

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for Med/Surg Tele patients including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as needed
• Manage bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy, and feeding tube care
• Complete all assigned training modules prior to start date
• Facility follows a zero-fault attendance policy where any missed shift is considered unexcused, with warnings issued after 2 missed shifts and possible cancellation after 3 or more
• No requested time off approved the day before, day of, or day after a holiday
• Maximum of 5 total days of RTO allowed within the assignment; no additional time off granted after submittal or during the contract
• No block or special scheduling requests accommodated
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as a traveler or permanent employee must disclose this information
