Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring strong ventilator experience and both Kansas and Missouri RN licensure.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a 456-bed, 5-time Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma, tertiary care teaching hospital
  • High-acuity pulmonary step-down patient population including ventilated trach patients, COPD, pulmonary valve placement, and respiratory therapy patients
  • Standard patient ratio of 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:6
  • Specialized procedures include endobronchial valve management and ventilator care
  • Proficiency with cardiac monitoring required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
  • Respiratory skills required: ventilated patient care, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • IV therapy skills required: port access, blood product administration, central/PICC line management, and peripheral IV placement
  • Additional clinical skills: feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (including titration), PCA management, CVA and TBI care
  • Charting via Epic EMR
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Free parking on-site

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Missouri (or Compact) AND Kansas — both must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating between facilities may require dual licensure
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Strong ventilator experience required
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • 2 professional references required: one from a supervisor or above, and one from a charge RN or above — all must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
  • SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for high-acuity pulmonary and PCU patients, including those on ventilators, with responsibilities spanning respiratory management, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, and neurological care
  • Isolation precautions are regularly utilized on this unit
  • Navy scrubs required
  • RTO is capped at 7 days for the contract period; RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted at time of consideration
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
  • Pre-start compliance modules are required (approximately 10–15 hours total), due the Monday one week prior to start date
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates (within 75 miles of the facility) are not eligible for this position
