Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level II Trauma acute care facility in Bismarck, ND, with a requirement for proficiency in either Ortho/Neuro or General/Robotics specialties.
Details
- Acute care hospital OR setting with 12 OR suites, 1 Endo Suite, and 1 Cysto Suite
- Averages 25–30 cases per day across a broad surgical patient population (peds through geriatrics)
- General/Robotics track: common cases include open bellies, GYN, urology, cysto, endo/GI, and robotic-assisted surgery using the Da Vinci Xi and ION Robot on Stryker towers
- Ortho/Neuro track: common cases include total joints (hips, knees, shoulders), sports medicine, arthroscopies, spinal fusions, cervical and lumbar cases, micro discs, and craniotomies
- Charge Nurse coverage provided for all shifts (7a–11p Mon–Fri, 7a–7p weekends); manager on-site until 4p Mon–Fri
- OR techs are present on all shifts
- EMR: Epic
- 8-hour day shifts, 0645–1515 or 0900–1730, Monday–Friday; schedule determined by clinical supervisor
- Weeknight call required 1–2 times per week (1515–0645)
- Weekend call required approximately every 3–4 weekends (Fri 1515–Mon 0645)
- Holiday call required on a rotating basis with permanent staff
- 15-minute call response time required; 8-hour post-call reprieve shifts provided; sleep room available on-site
- Floating required to cross-train to other specialty cases and to the floor as a 1:1 sitter or helper as needed (training provided)
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS certification required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 3 years of OR experience required
- General/Robotics track: must have experience with open bellies, GYN, Da Vinci Xi, and endo; scope experience accepted with willingness to refresh
- Ortho/Neuro track: must have 3 years of dedicated Ortho/Neuro OR experience
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Must not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility; candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- A driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- RNs are not required to scrub
- Scrubs are provided
- Orientation consists of 3–5 days of hospital/unit-based orientation plus 2 buddy call shifts
- Candidates will undergo a profile review and manager interview as part of the selection process
- The department is described as having a family-oriented atmosphere with strong team support
- RTO must be submitted upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract may be approved; no additional RTO will be approved after the initial request
- Holiday coverage is required on a rotating basis shared with permanent staff
