Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a comprehensive cancer center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity Med/Surg Tele experience and rotating day/night availability.
Details
- Work setting is a comprehensive cancer center with 318 acute care beds across all-inpatient units of 36 beds each, with units specialized by cancer diagnosis
- Floating required across multiple oncology units, including BMT, Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare
- PCU staffing ratio is 1:3, up to 1:4 with mixed acuity; Med/Surg Tele ratio is ideally 1:4, up to 1:5
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30), with possible day/night rotation based on department needs
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are based on staffing priorities and are not guaranteed
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- No set or blocked scheduling is available
Requirements
- Active OH or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Med/Surg Tele experience or higher required
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- Oncology experience is preferred but not required
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- First week of orientation is Monday–Friday day shift; weeks 2 and 3 include five shifts of bedside orientation before independent practice
- Self-scheduling requests are submitted prior to the final schedule being balanced and posted
- All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility do not need a 30-day break between assignments to change representation

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
