Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/ED Boarding Unit position requiring Cerner proficiency, ACLS certification, and a minimum of 2 years of PCU experience.

Details

• Works in an ED Boarding Unit where patients are held after coming from the ED until discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit — this is not a traditional PCU unit
• Patient population consists of stable MS and PCU-type patients; unstable patients are transferred out
• Unit operates as a 4-bed unit that can expand to 8–10 beds based on acuity and staffing needs
• Patient ratios are 1:5–6 and may fluctuate based on census and acuity
• Team nursing model is in place, with RNs working alongside LPNs at times — comfort with delegation is essential
• Float position: RN may be floated to an inpatient PCU unit or to an affiliate hospital nearby
• Schedule is 3x12-hour shifts
• Day shift hours are 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend is required
• No on-call requirements
• Cerner EMR experience is required

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required — AHA and RQI formats accepted
• Minimum of 2 years of PCU nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Must be comfortable with team nursing alongside LPNs, including delegation responsibilities
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation required
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position

Additional Information

• Local candidates are not accepted for this PCU position
• Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 5 days or fewer may be auto-approved
