Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CTICU/CVICU) position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and CVICU background preferred.

Details

  • Work in a 24-bed Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU/CVICU) within an acute care, Level I Trauma Center setting
  • Patient population includes cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, ECMO, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, TAVR, and Empella device patients
  • Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments due to acuity
  • High volume of bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter insertions, and epidurals
  • Charting via Cerner EMR
  • Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used
  • No IV team on unit — strong IV skills are required
  • Respiratory therapy available 24/7
  • Pharmacy available 24/7, including support for transplant patients
  • Intensivist on-site during days and on-call at night
  • Charge nurses carry no patient assignment
  • 2 PCTs available during days and nights at high census
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), 13-week contract
  • 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
  • Holidays worked on a rotation basis
  • Floating required to other ICUs and telemetry units (4:1 ratio on tele); travelers float before permanent staff
  • May be required to float to an additional campus location
  • 2-day floor-specific orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience strongly preferred
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • IABP and CABG experience required to take patients independently
  • Strong IV insertion skills required (no IV team on unit)
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must provide a valid driver's license for permanent address verification (50-mile radius requirement applies)
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Additional Information

  • Candidate must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address is verified via driver's license
  • On Day 1 of orientation, all RNs must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been dismissed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
  • Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Failure of both the Relias Dysrhythmia exam and/or the SIMs Lab sterile technique assessment results in a 6-month DNU status across CommonSpirit's Arizona and Sacramento regions
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Must have personal transportation
