Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Work setting is a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation
  • Emergency Department with 61 beds plus surge capacity
  • Patient population includes chest pain, stroke, diabetes, abdominal pain, MVCs, hypertension, stabbings, and mental health cases
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 depending on assigned zone, with CNA tech support of 4–6 per shift
  • Experience with high-acuity drips required, including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
  • EMR is Epic; 6 months of Epic experience required
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Glucommander, PCA pain management systems, bladder scanners, and portable vital sign monitors
  • 12-hour evening shifts, 11A–11P, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule (every other weekend)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating within the ED is required; floating to a sister ER location approximately 45 minutes away is possible but not guaranteed

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of onboarding compliance
  • Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Level 1 Trauma emergency department experience required
  • Epic EMR experience of at least 6 months required
  • Emergency nursing national certification preferred but not required
  • One professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary, charge nurses, phlebotomy, a PICC team, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7, as well as central telemetry monitoring in the ED
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving Day or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • RN scrub color is Navy
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted; no radius rule applies — the same rate is offered to local travelers at this GA facility
