Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Heavy trauma patient population; cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use (transitioning to Baxter); Omnicell medication dispensing
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC — candidates unwilling to obtain TNCC prior to start will not be considered
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; 2 years preferred
• Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include managing complex critically ill patients across surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses with strong critical thinking and assessment skills
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights)
• Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
• No RTO will be approved during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August each year); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, provided the full 13-week contract can be accommodated
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking is available on site
• First-time travelers will not be considered — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to the facility as a traveler
