Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PICU position at a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in ventilator/trach management, working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in a newly opened Level II Trauma Center facility with 16 PICU beds
  • Mixed unit environment with interchangeable overflow between Med/Surg and PICU, covering neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patients
  • Diverse patient population including respiratory patients (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trachs), oncology/chemo, RSV, asthma, COVID, MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronically ill, and congenital heart defect patients
  • Surgical cases include appendectomies, G-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, fractures, VP shunts, cardiac, and neuro
  • ECMO patients are present on the unit; ECMO specialist manages the machine
  • CRRT performed using the Prismax system; typically assigned to core staff unless traveler has prior Prismax experience
  • Acuity levels include Stat categories 1, 2, 3, and occasionally 4
  • No solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant cases
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700
  • 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating to Med/Surg or ED in a Helping Hands or Constant Observer capacity
  • Epic EMR preferred

Requirements

  • Active WA RN license or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G-tube/J-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion and management
  • CICU experience preferred
  • Prior CRRT experience with the Prismax system preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be required prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travelers with prior Prismax/CRRT experience may be trained to take CRRT patients, though volume on the unit is low and cases are typically assigned to core staff
  • In rare surge situations, care may extend to patients up to age 30
  • Severe facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level I Trauma Center
  • Scrubs of any color are acceptable; hooded shirts and long sleeves are not permitted — sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow
