Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/MedSurg position at a short-term acute care hospital, requiring at least 18 months of experience, ACLS, and Cerner proficiency on night shifts.
Details
- Position is located in a 210-bed, short-term acute care hospital on a mixed-acuity PCU/MedSurg unit (4E)
- Patient population includes CV Surgery, Thoracic Surgery (CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS), Cardiology, Endocrine, and Oncology
- Unit also accommodates flex-acuity patients across MedSurg, Progressive, and ICU levels within cardiovascular and oncology service lines
- All patient rooms are private and equipped with overhead lifts and telemetry monitoring
- Charting is performed using Cerner (experience required)
- Schedule is nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required to meet facility needs
- No on-call responsibilities
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Pending licensure considered; IN, Compact, or temporary license must be obtained prior to start
- Graduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE is required
- Minimum 18 months of RN experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR required
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Experience with post-cardiac surgery care, TAVI/TAVR, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care/management required
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
- Preferred experience: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, sheath removal, Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella), and ventilator management
Additional Information
- Must be comfortable working across PCU and MedSurg acuity levels as needed
- Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
- Must be willing to float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate facility
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved; additional RTO is subject to discussion
- Any prior permanent or PRN employee of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Indiana-licensed RNs are not permitted to work at IU Health facilities in this role (PCU); this restriction does not apply to Periop/OR, Allied, or Ambulatory RN travelers
- Scrub requirement: black bottoms and red top
- Parking is free
